Series: Modesty Blaise

The best caper novels ever.

Also the best characters; Modesty and Willy certainly, and Tarrant, but also the visitors. The villains do tend towards the psychotic sadists a bit too much, and nobody of non-heterosexual interests is ever a good person. Heinlein learned sort-of better, but maybe O'donnell didn't.

Modesty and Willy have pretty close to super-hero skills (at least Batman-level); but instead of getting them from a radioactive spider, they worked for them. And in fact they still work hard, keeping the skills sharp. It's a good thing they're rich!
